Tips for Getting Orchids to Bloom Quickly and Avoid Diseases

Orchids always captivate flower lovers. This flower can sell for very high prices. Its value rarely decreases due to its beautiful and timeless appearance. Orchids are often considered symbols of eternity, sincerity, and the beauty of love.

However, growing or planting orchids isn’t easy. Not all orchids bloom quickly. But don’t worry; there are specific strategies to help your orchids bloom beautifully. Here are some tips!

How to Make Orchids Bloom Quickly

Manage Light Intensity and Humidity

Light intensity and humidity are crucial factors for the health of orchids. These two factors greatly influence the blooming process. Each orchid type has specific requirements: Dendrobium needs light intensity around 4,000-5,000 fc, Cattleya requires about 3,000-4,000 fc, and Phalaenopsis thrives at 2,000 fc. In contrast, midday sunlight intensity can reach 10,000 fc.

Humidity levels also vary for different orchid types. Phalaenopsis should stay below 60% humidity with temperatures around 28-32 degrees Celsius. Cattleya and Dendrobium need more than 50% humidity at similar temperatures.

Three months before you want your orchids to bloom, expose them to sunlight from around 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Afterward, place them back under a shade with about 35% light intensity.

Cattleya orchids need more nighttime conditions. Cover them with black cloth from 4:00 PM to 6:00 AM, creating darkness for 13.5 hours and then providing 3,000-4,000 fc of light for 10.5 hours. Continue this until flower buds appear, usually after a month.

Fertilization and Watering

Fertilization and watering are also crucial in orchid cultivation, especially since orchids are usually hung in special containers. Unlike wild orchids that grow naturally and get nutrients in various ways, cultivated orchids need different care.

For fertilizing orchids, it’s best to apply fertilizer to the leaves, as they absorb nutrients more effectively than roots. Avoid sprinkling fertilizer directly into the pot, as it may settle and cause diseases.

The best time to fertilize is when the leaf stomata open, typically between 8:00 AM-10:00 AM and 3:00 PM-5:00 PM. This technique ensures orchids absorb nutrients more quickly.

Rainwater

Rainwater can also enhance the beauty of your orchids. Ensure your orchids get some rain to prevent them from looking dull and wrinkled. Orchids deprived of rainwater often appear less vibrant.

Additionally, consider how you water them. Orchids don’t need a lot of water. Only mist them lightly. During the rainy season, you usually don’t need to water your orchids.

Preventing Fungi

Finally, be aware of fungi. Orchids are prone to fungal infections during the rainy season, which can delay blooming. Spray fungicide at least once a week to protect your orchids.

These are some tips to help your orchids bloom quickly. Hopefully, this guide helps you grow healthier and more beautiful orchids.
