Complete and Affordable Guide to Making Fermented Broiler Chicken Feed

Fermented Feed for Broiler Chickens: The rising cost of chicken feed presents a significant challenge for broiler farmers. Many have to cut their profit margins just to keep their businesses running smoothly. Quality feed is crucial for success in this field; poor-quality feed leads to suboptimal harvests.

Fortunately, Sri Waluyo, a broiler chicken farmer from Temanggung, has developed a cost-effective method for making fermented chicken feed. This approach not only saves money but also enhances feed quality. Here’s how you can make it:

Ingredients:

  • 100g rice bran
  • 150g mung bean flour
  • 100g fish meal
  • 200g corn
  • 100g cassava flour
  • Coconut meal and tofu residue
  • 150g kale powder
  • 50-100 ml probiotics
  • 250g garlic
  • 1 kg salt
  • 100-200 ml molasses
  • 1-2 liters of water

For equipment, you’ll need a dipper, bucket, plastic sheets or a tarp, and a watering tool. Follow these steps:

Making Tofu Residue:

  1. Mix crushed garlic with enough water.
  2. Add tofu residue and mix well.
  3. Add probiotics, molasses, and boiled water. Stir thoroughly and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  4. Add 10 kg of iodized salt and mix until evenly distributed.
  5. Combine tofu residue, probiotic solution, and salt, then mix thoroughly. Ensure no lumps remain.

Making Fermented Feed:

  1. Mix all ingredients (except tofu residue). Spread them on a plastic sheet with a minimum thickness of 10 cm.
  2. Flatten the mixture, then pour the tofu residue mixed with other ingredients.
  3. Mix all ingredients well, ensuring no lumps remain.
  4. Place the mixture in a large container and cover it tightly. Allow it to ferment for 4 hours.
  5. Once fermented, the feed is ready for the broiler chickens.

Benefits of Fermented Chicken Feed

Fermented feed is more affordable and offers numerous benefits. Broiler chickens grow fatter and more naturally, and their overall health improves, leading to faster harvesting times. The added probiotics in the fermented feed support the chickens’ digestive systems, enhancing their health. The mortality rate decreases to just 5% after switching to this feed.

Maintaining Chicken Health

While focusing on feed, it’s essential to maintain cleanliness in the coop and ensure the feed is clean to prevent worms. Worm infestations can severely affect chicken growth, leading to stunted growth. Therefore, be careful with feed selection, including the amount provided, nutrition, and vaccinations. Here are some signs of worm infestation in chickens:

  • Reduced appetite
  • Poor body growth despite a good appetite
  • Slowed growth
  • Whitish and watery droppings
  • Drooping wings

These steps outline how to make fermented feed for broiler chickens. Make sure you understand the importance of factors like feed quality, coop cleanliness, clean water, vaccinations, and even the chickens’ psychological well-being. Chickens can experience stress, which can hinder their growth.
